An airline company is a national or international company specialised in transporting passengers by plane. They are usually large companies considering the investments required for the purchase and the maintenance of the planes.

Apart from regular connections proposing permanent and regular shcedules, there are two other types of airlines: Charters and Low-cost companies. They mostly operate online in order to reduce the administrative costs and to offer the lowest prices.

All these airlines are submitted to the same rules and regulations. Differences remain in the prices and onboard services. The quality of an airline is mainly bassed on how recent are its planes and how often they are renewed!

Charters are planes in which all the seats are bought by travel agencies and resold to customers under packages. They can be mid or long range international flights. This model is nowadays the main one for airline business and their growing success is leading major companies to adopt this system. This growth is due to the possibility to buy these flights online through "special deals" or as a "made to measure" trip on a travel website.

Low-cost airlines mainly operate on national or short international fligths. They mainly exploit lower sized planes consuming less and with the ability to land in smaller size airports. They differenciate themselves through prices because all their onboard services (food, newspapers, choice of the seat) are "additional". They mainly sell online to maintain low prices and to be able to offer specific offers according to the period of the year. The online selling point reduces staffing and administrative costs. They are also working quite a lot with tour operators offering "last minute" deals. They can maintain a very high rate of occupation in their planes.
